# sigconv

`sigconv` is a Python package and CLI tool for converting byte signatures between common formats used in binary pattern matching and reverse engineering.

## Features

- Convert signatures between:
  - **spaced** — hex bytes separated by spaces, wildcards as `?`  
    Example: `48 8B 05 ? ? ? ? 41`
  - **escaped** — escaped bytes with `\xHH` and wildcards as `.`  
    Example: `\x48\x8B\x05....\x41`
  - **bytesmask** — pair of hex string and mask string (`x` for fixed bytes, `?` for wildcards)  
    Example:  
    ```
    Hex: 488B050000000041  
    Mask: xxx????x
    ```

- Robust parsing of inputs and automatic format detection
- Support for combined input formats (e.g. hex+mask in one string)
- Command-line interface for quick conversions

## Installation

You can install the package via pip (if published) or manually:

```bash
pip install sigconv
```

Or clone the repo and install locally:

```bash
git clone https://github.com/zwalloc/sigconv.git
cd sigconv
pip install .

## Usage
### Command line interface

```bash
sigconv <to_format> <input> [mask_for_bytesmask]
```
- `<to_format>`: one of escaped, spaced, bytesmask
- `<input>`: input signature string (spaced, escaped, or bytesmask format)
- `[mask_for_bytesmask]`: mask string for bytesmask format (optional if included with input)

#### Examples:

# Convert escaped to spaced
sigconv spaced "\x48\x8B\x05....\x41"

# Convert spaced to escaped
sigconv escaped "48 8B 05 ? ? ? ? 41"

# Convert bytesmask (hex + mask) to spaced
sigconv spaced 488B050000000041 xxx????x

# Convert combined bytesmask input to spaced
sigconv spaced "\x48\x8B\x05\x00\x00\x00\x00\x41" "xxx????x"

# Convert combined bytesmask input with comma to spaced
sigconv spaced "\x48\x8B\x05\x00\x00\x00\x00\x41", "xxx????x"

# Convert spaced to bytesmask
sigconv bytesmask "48 8B 05 ? ? ? ? 41"

## Using as a Python module

## Notes
- Always quote inputs containing spaces or backslashes to avoid shell issues.
- For bytesmask input, the mask is mandatory.
- You can specify the mask either as a separate argument or combined with the hex string, separated by a comma.
- Wildcards behave consistently across formats (? in spaced and mask, . in escaped).
