# PyTerrainMap

**Collaborative terrain mapping platform for multi-robot fleets.**

PyTerrainMap enables heterogeneous robot teams to build shared terrain understanding in real-time. Download, deploy locally, provide your terrain, and let your bots collaborate.

> Part of the PyTerrain ecosystem. For intelligence/anomaly detection, see [PyTerrainAI](https://github.com/Mullassery/pyterrain-ai)

## Quick Start

```python
from pyterrain_map import PyTerrainMap, Observation, GeoPoint, SensorType
# Initialize
map_service = PyTerrainMap(config={
    "terrain_file": "factory_elevation.tif",
    "floor_plans": "factory_floors.json",
})
# Query before exploring
context = await map_service.query(
    location=GeoPoint(40.123, -74.567),
    elevation_range=(0, 2),
    interested_sensors=[SensorType.Thermal, SensorType.LiDAR]
)
print(context.suggested_focus_areas)  # Where should I go?
print(context.temporal_trends)        # What changed?
# Push observations after exploring
await map_service.push_observation(Observation(
    robot_id="quad_1",
    location=current_gps,
    sensor_type=SensorType.Thermal,
    value={"celsius": 42.1},
    confidence=0.95
))
# Get timeline images (optional PyNoramic)
timeline = await map_service.get_image_timeline(
    location=GeoPoint(40.123, -74.567),
    time_range=("2024-01-01", "2024-01-10")
)
```

## Features

- **Multi-perspective terrain reconstruction** — Fuse observations from different robots, viewpoints, and sensor types
- **3D spatial awareness** — Ground floor ≠ 2nd floor ≠ roof (elevation-aware indexing)
- **Temporal decay** — Recent data weighted higher; old observations fade gracefully
- **Real-time context** — Bots query "what should I know before exploring?"
- **Sensor fusion** — Combines thermal + LiDAR + camera + ultrasonic intelligently
- **Anomaly detection** — Flags threats, damage, unexpected presence
- **Image timeline stitching** — Progressive 3D reconstruction from image sequences
- **Fog-of-war** — Tracks explored, partially-observed, and unknown zones
- **Extensible** — Custom layers, fusion algorithms, alerting logic

## Use Cases

### Police Surveillance
Patrol units share discovered threats in real-time. Thermal detects activity, visual confirms threat, database flags as wanted.

### Agricultural Inspection
Drones capture crop health, ground rovers measure soil, quadrupeds inspect damage. Progressive season timeline.

### Construction Monitoring
Compare site against design. Detect deviations automatically. Track progress over weeks.

### Building Security
Humanoid + drone patrol. Detect anomalies (unusual presence, unauthorized entry). Learn normal patterns.

### Factory Inspection
Thermal + LiDAR + camera → composite understanding. HVAC malfunction detected automatically.

## Installation

### From Source

```bash
git clone https://github.com/Mullassery/pypanorama.git
cd pypanorama
# Install Rust dependencies
rustup update
# Build Rust core
cargo build --release
# Install Python wrapper
pip install -e .
## Architecture
PyPanorama consists of three layers:
1. **Core Engine** (Rust)
   - 3D spatial indexing (H3 + elevation)
   - Observation storage & querying
   - Temporal decay & freshness scoring
   - Multi-sensor fusion
   - Anomaly detection
2. **Python Bindings** (PyO3)
   - Simple async API
   - Type hints & IDE support
   - Easy integration with robot frameworks
3. **PyNoramic** (Optional)
   - Image registration & stitching
   - Structure from Motion (3D reconstruction)
   - Temporal image comparison
   - Change detection
